Ss Peter and Paul Indoor Bowling Club is affiliated to the Catholic Parish of Sts Peter and Paul, Lower Hutt.  The club currently has an active membership of approximately 35, generally drawn from the lower part of the Hutt Valley.

A Brief Club History

The Club formed as a club on 14 February 1956 as the "Lower Hutt Catholic Indoor Bowls Club" with the aim to to promote sport and foster parish goodwill

The first committee was:

    President                 Mrs Lil Williams
    Vice President        R Gray
    Secretary                 J Griffin
    Treasurer                Mrs B Hickton
Committee              Mesdames Gee, Gray, Griffin & Mr Ford
    Patron                      Mr George Pearce

Up until March 1957 bowls were played in the old Parish House in Bloomfield Terrace and then transferred to the Hutt Central School Hall. In more recent years the club nights have been held in the Sacred Heart College Hall. With the unavailability of Sacred Heart College Hall from the end of 2009, the club moved to the Our Lady of the Rosary School Hall in Wainui Road, Waiwhetu at the beginning of the 2010 season

In March 1959 the club name was amended to St Peter & Paul Indoor Bowling Club to identify the club with the Parish rather than the district. With the founding of the Avalon Parish in 1961, a number of the original members left to form the Avalon Catholic Indoor Bowling Club, and again membership declined in 1962 when the Waiwhetu Parish formed their own bowling club.

Although the main purpose of the club has been to operate primarily in a social environment where members are free to relax and enjoy a game of bowls in a friendly atmosphere, members have secured various successes in national, regional and local competitions and the name of St Peter & Pauls has come to be respected at Indoor Bowls Championships throughout the country. National Honours have been won for the club at New Zealand Catholic Championships on at least three occasions and various titles have also been won at both the Wellington and Hutt Valley Championships during the years. The club has also been represented at the NZ Indoor Bowls Association National Championships. Competition results are displayed on the various appropriate pages on this site.

The Silver Jubilee of the club was held on 17 October 1981 beginning with Bowlers Mass of Remembrance at St Peter & Paul church followed by a Jubilee welcome and morning tea in the Parish Hall. The day concluded with a Social Evening in the Sacred Heart College Hall that night. The Golden Jubilee was celebrated in 2007 with a Mass on Sunday 18 March, a gala on Friday 25 May and a club dinner in September.

Today the club draws members from all over Hutt City and has an active membership of approximately 30.

Being the only active competing Indoor Bowls clubs among the various Catholic Parishs in Hutt City,  Ss Peter & Pauls Indoor Bowls Club offers itself as a 'catchment club' for players from all Hutt City parishes who wish to actively play, either socially or competively, but currently have no local parish club.
